Deutsch in Marokko – Allemand au Maroc – أَلْمانِيّ فِي المَغْرِب : Thank you for joining us today at “DEUTSCH IN MAROKKO”. It´s our first interview in English. We chose the language because of the international subject we are talking about. It is the Marrakech Artist Meeting – MAM, that will take place next week. Find more Information on http://www.wix.com/marrakechartist/meeting#!
We are very happy to talk with Jana Lüthje. She works for Tanzbüro Berlin and as a freelance production manager, organising different groups and projects, and next week in Morocco she will manage the production of the Marrakech Artist Meeting – MAM. Jana, nice to have you, thank you for this short interview!
Jana Lüthje, you are organizing the MAM together with the Goethe Institut Morocco, how did the project get started?

Mam Marrakech Artist Meeting: The project came into being through the idea and initiative of Hana Tefrati (Hamburg- and Berlin-based choreographer with Moroccan origin). She wanted to create a platform for exchange between artists through the simple fact of working together for a set amount of time – and found it even more interesting to integrate the factor and stimulus of intercultural exchange in a setting at least foreign to most of the European artists. With this idea she contacted me, and together we presented it to Dialogpunkt in Marrakesh and the Goethe-Institut in Rabat.

Deutsch in Marokko – Allemand au Maroc – أَلْمانِيّ فِي المَغْرِب: The Meeting ist sceduled for German and Moroccan Artists, who could apply for attendance till the end of January. Tell us about the Artists that will take part.

Mam Marrakech Artist Meeting : We have a mixture of artists participating in the meeting, coming from performing art / dance and music – and through this variety we are expecting an interesting exchange with the different art forms influencing each other.

Deutsch in Marokko – Allemand au Maroc – أَلْمانِيّ فِي المَغْرِب: How will the Meeting take place? To what can the audience anticipate?

Mam Marrakech Artist Meeting : The structure of the meeting is self-organized by the participants. There will be a morning-get-together each day to form working groups and structure the rest of the day, and each participant is expected to contribute in some way to the project. So there is the opportunity to give training classes, to lead a discussion on political or art-related matters of interest, and to work on performative ideas that will cumulate into an inofficial showing towards the end of the project.
If this showing is open to a broad public, we will announce it on this Facebook page – so stay attentive! MAM is documented by a team of Marrakesh TV and a German journalist who is accompanying the meeting. The results of the meeting will also be published on the MAM webside.

Deutsch in Marokko – Allemand au Maroc – أَلْمانِيّ فِي المَغْرِب : An important subject of the MAM is the cultural exchange between Morocco and Germany respectively Europe. If you see art respectively dance as an instrument of communication, which possibilities and chances does it bring for the international exchange?

Mam Marrakech Artist Meeting : Art has a potential of bringing people together, by finding different ways of expressing their ideas, formulating them together, creating… – often aside from language. Dance and Music in particular are art forms that do not need verbal communication (as much) in order to express oneself – and in addition are culturally formed and based in traditions of the country and culture. In this sense building an international exchange through the art can be a more intense interaction with cultural traditions.

Deutsch in Marokko – Allemand au Maroc – أَلْمانِيّ فِي المَغْرِب : Who finances the MAM, do you have sponsors? Will the MAM take place in the next years?

Mam Marrakech Artist Meeting : The meeting is financed to the greatest part by Goethe-Institut in Rabat, with support of the „Internationaler Kulturaustausch“ of Kulturbehörde Hamburg. We are hoping to be able to establish the meeting in a way that there will be further MAMs (Marrakesh Artist Meetings) in the next years.

Deutsch in Marokko – Allemand au Maroc – أَلْمانِيّ فِي المَغْرِب : Liebe Jana, vielen Dank, dass du dir Zeit genommen hast!! Viel Erfolg für das Festival und viel Spass bei deinem Aufenthalt in Marokko 😉
